New Aina Haina Public Library Website

Whether you are looking up a book, using an online database, trying to finish your homework, or checking out events at the library, the web is the primary way to access library information.  The new website  is tailored to the interests of  the Aina Haina and surrounding communities and we would like to take the opportunity to promote the numerous digital resources provided by the Hawaii State Public Library System.

Consumer Education Fair

consumereducationCome to this fair to get free consumer information from local, state, and federal agencies such as AARP, Senior Fraud Squad, and Hawaii’s 529 College Savings Program (participating agencies may vary).

-Learn how to be a smarter consumer, start a business, or save for college
-Keep your identity safe and avoid investment scams
-Get information on Medicare and senior services
-Check on unclaimed property

Consumer Education Fair is jointly presented by the Hawaii State Dept. of Commerce and Consumer Affairs and the Hawaii State Public Library System

Free Comic Book Day!

Date: May 2, 2009
Time: All day during library hours (10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)

freecomicbookdayDuring this annual one-day special event, teens can come into the library to receive a free comic book of their choice.  It’s as simple as going to the Reference Desk and flashing us your valid Hawaii State Public Library System card.  Elementary-age appropriate comics will also be available in limited quantity.  Come early in the day to get the best selection!

Healthy Aging: Fall Prevention

fallpreventionDue to the popularity of their previous presention at Pearl City Public Library, KCC instructor Ann M. Low and her Healthy Aging: Fall Prevention, presented by KCC Instructor Ann M. Low and her Physical Therapy Assistant Program  students will repeat the program for the east oahu community at Aina Haina Public Library.  This free interactive session will help seniors, caregivers, and other interested adults avoid the painful and sometimes debilitating consequences of a fall.  Topics to be discussed include medical concerns, home assessment, community fall prevention, getting in and out of bed or a chair, and balance and strengthening exercises.  Q&A session to follow.

The Art of Taiko with Kenny Endo

kenny_endoIn celebration of National library Week 2009, Aina Haina is proud to present The Art of Taiko, an all-ages cultural featuring a demonstartion and lecture on the art of performing with taiko (Japanese drums).  Kenny Endo is a performer, composer, and leader of contemporary taiko.  He began his taiko career over 30 years ago as a member of Kinnara Taiko and San Francisco Taiko Dojo.
