Free Comic Book Day!

freecomicbookdayDuring this annual one-day special event, teens can come into the library to receive a free comic book of their choice.  It’s as simple as going to the Reference Desk and flashing us your valid Hawaii State Public Library System card.  Elementary-age appropriate comics will also be available in limited quantity.  Come early in the day to get the best selection!

Chopstick Lei Teen Craft

The Art of Taiko with Kenny Endo

kenny_endoIn celebration of National library Week 2009, Aina Haina is proud to present The Art of Taiko, an all-ages cultural featuring a demonstartion and lecture on the art of performing with taiko (Japanese drums).  Kenny Endo is a performer, composer, and leader of contemporary taiko.  He began his taiko career over 30 years ago as a member of Kinnara Taiko and San Francisco Taiko Dojo.

Introduction and Demonstration of Taichi by Janet Jin

The beneficial effect of Taichi on health has been confirmed for several thousand years in China. Taichi has also proved to be an excellent exercise for many illnesses, such as arthritis, high & low blood pressure and other illness by western study since 1960’s. Taichi rejuvenates Qi (vital energy), and by practicing it regularly, it helps you to achieve the balance of body, mind, spirit, and to live a productive and happy life.

The introduction will cover the brief history of Taichi, how it can benefit your health, mind and spirit, and includes a short demonstration and a 10-minute try-out practice session.

Janet Jin is an instructor of Arthritis Foundation Taichi Class at the Chinese Cultural Plaza, the Dong Taichi school. She has also taught at Tokai University, Lady of the Mount Church, the Honolulu Club, and the Punahou Spa Fitness.

Star Mini-Books Eco-Craft Class for Teens and Adults
